使用方法

1

Upload your GIF

Drop your animated GIF into the tool or use the file picker above.

2

Set crop region

Drag the crop handles to define the rectangular region to keep, or enter exact pixel values for x, y, width, and height.

3

Download cropped GIF

Click Crop. All frames are trimmed to the selected region in your browser. Download your result — smaller canvas, same animation.

Why Crop a GIF?

Cropping removes pixels that add no value: blank borders around the subject, distracting background elements at the edges, letterbox bars from video conversion, or watermarks positioned in a corner. A tightly cropped GIF directs the viewer's attention exactly where you intend while also reducing file size proportionally to the canvas area removed.

Cropping is also the primary way to change a GIF's aspect ratio without distorting the animation. Resizing preserves aspect ratio; cropping changes it. When a platform requires a specific aspect ratio — 1:1 for Instagram or Discord avatars, 16:9 for Twitter cards, 9:16 for TikTok — cropping is the correct tool for the job.

Unlike cropping a single still image, cropping an animated GIF requires applying the exact same x, y, width, and height to every frame in sequence. If even one frame used a different crop region, the animation would appear to jump or shift between frames. This tool applies the crop uniformly across all frames to ensure a visually stable animation.

Internally, the GIF spec allows frames to be positioned at arbitrary x, y offsets within the canvas (used for GIF optimization, where only the changed region of each frame is stored). The GIF Cropper accounts for this by compositing each frame against the running canvas state before applying the crop — ensuring the visible crop region is pixel-perfect regardless of how the source GIF was encoded. The crop parameters are defined as an offset from the top-left corner: x pixels from the left, y pixels from the top, then width and height defining the rectangle. The output GIF has a canvas size exactly equal to the crop dimensions, with all frame position offsets reset to zero.

核心功能

🖥️

Remove UI chrome

Screen-capture tools often include window title bars, browser tabs, or taskbars. Cropping eliminates these distractions and reduces file size.

Eliminate letterbox bars

GIFs converted from 16:9 video but displayed in a 4:3 container often have black bars on top and bottom. Crop these out for a cleaner look.

🎯

Focus on the subject

A GIF of a hand gesture or keyboard shortcut is far more effective when cropped tight around the action rather than showing the whole screen.

🚫

Remove corner watermarks

If a watermark is confined to a corner where the crop boundary can exclude it without cutting important content, cropping is the quickest solution.

📱

Match platform ratios

Platforms like Instagram enforce specific aspect ratios. Pre-cropping ensures no important content is auto-cropped by the platform's algorithm.

Zero server cost

All processing runs via WebAssembly in your browser. No data leaves your device, no rate limits, no account required.

常见问题

Does cropping reduce the GIF file size?
Yes. File size scales with the total pixel area of each frame. Cropping an 800 × 600 GIF to 400 × 300 reduces the canvas area to one quarter. The resulting file is typically 50–75% smaller, depending on content complexity. For maximum size reduction, follow cropping with the GIF Compressor.
Will the animation still loop correctly after cropping?
Yes. Loop count, frame delays, and all other GIF metadata are preserved exactly. Cropping only changes the canvas dimensions and the pixel data within each frame — all timing and loop behavior remain unchanged.
Can I crop to remove a watermark?
Cropping can remove a watermark if it is positioned in a corner or edge where the crop boundary can exclude it without cutting important content. If the watermark is centered or overlaps the main subject, cropping alone cannot remove it. For non-corner watermarks, consider our AI-powered GIF Watermark Remover which uses inpainting to remove overlaid text and logos.
Is there a minimum or maximum crop size?
There is no enforced minimum, but very small crops (under 50 × 50 px) will look blocky or pixelated when displayed at typical sizes. For small crops where you need a larger display size, use the GIF Resizer after cropping to scale up to a usable display dimension. Maximum crop size is bounded by the original GIF canvas.
How is cropping different from resizing?
Cropping removes pixels from the edges to change both canvas size and aspect ratio without scaling or distorting the remaining content. Resizing scales all pixels up or down proportionally, preserving the aspect ratio but changing the display dimensions. Use cropping when you want to select a sub-region of the original; use the GIF Resizer when you want to scale the entire animation to a different size.
